The parents of a toddler found wandering alone in the aftermath of the Highland Park mass shooting at a Fourth of July parade were both killed during the massacre, local media have reported. A picture of two year-old Aiden McCarthy went viral in the aftermath of the attack before he was reunited with his grandparents. But it has now been revealed that the child’s parents are both dead. Kevin McCarthy, 37, and Irina McCarthy, 35, were both named as victims of the shooter who attacked the parade in the upmarket Chicago suburb, injuring dozens as as well as killing seven people. Local television station CBS Chicago reported that a GoFundMe page had been set up to raise money for the child, Aiden McCarthy, who will now be raised by his grandparents. https://twitter.com/MarParNews/status/1544418629642584070?s=20&t=Thmhmz0X42GRUrkXMl-19g “At two years old, Aiden is left in the unthinkable position; to grow up without his parents,” the page said. Hours after gunfire interrupted the Highland Park, Illinois, July Fourth parade, killing seven people and wounding dozens more, police apprehended the man they believe was responsible. Robert “Bobby” E. Crimo III, 21, faces seven charges of first-degree murder in connection with the shooting, which authorities said he allegedly carried out by climbing onto the rooftop of a nearby business and opening fire minutes after the parade started, sending parade-goers and participants running for safety. The suspect dressed in women’s clothing to help conceal his identity, Covelli said, blended in with the crowds as they fled the area, and went to his mother’s house. Law enforcement have yet to establish a motive, but Covelli said there has been no information to suggest the attack was “racially motiv...

HIGHLAND PARK, Ill. — A gunman on a rooftop opened fire on an Independence Day parade in suburban Chicago on Monday, killing at least six people, wounding at least 30 and sending hundreds of marchers, parents with strollers and children on bicycles fleeing in terror, police said. Authorities said a man named as a person of interest in the shooting was taken into police custody Monday evening after an hourslong manhunt in and around Highland Park, an affluent community of about 30,000 on Chicago’s north shore. The July 4 shooting was just the latest to shatter the rituals of American life. Schools, churches, grocery stores and now community parades have all become killing grounds in recent months. This time, the bloodshed came as the nation tried to find cause to celebrate its founding and the bonds that still hold it together. “It definitely hits a lot harder when it’s not only your hometown but it’s also right in front of you,” resident Ron Tuazon said as he and a friend returned to t...
